Answers

You are allowed to perform Tayammum (تيمم) — dry ablution using clean earth — in place of Wudu or Ghusl under the following situations, based on Islamic teachings from the Qur'an and Sunnah:

✅ You may do Tayammum when:
No Water is Available

You cannot find any water after searching.

You are far from a water source and it’s not possible to reach it in time.

Not Enough Water

The water you have is only enough for drinking or cooking, not for Wudu or Ghusl.

Using Water is Harmful

Due to illness, injury, or medical condition, using water could make your condition worse or delay healing.

Extreme Cold

If it’s very cold, and you have no way to heat the water, and using cold water would cause harm.

Fear for Safety

Going to get water might put you at risk of being attacked, robbed, or harmed in any way.

Time for Salah is About to End

You fear missing Salah if you go searching for water, especially if water is not close.

How to Perform Tayammum:
Intention (Niyyah): In your heart, intend to purify yourself to pray.

Strike clean earth/dust once with both hands.

Wipe your face with your hands.

Wipe both hands up to the wrist with each other.

Quran Reference:
"And if you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself, or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and your hands with it."
— Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:6)
